A Whole Lotta ISH, a showcase of Derrick’s comic concert pieces, was presented at New York’s Ars Nova Theater on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 8 PM.
In July 2008, Derrick was commissioned by the Yale Philharmonia to compose an orchestral encore based on Chinese folk songs for its inaugural Asian tour. The resulting work, Valley, Mountain, Sky, was premiered to a sold-out house at Beijing’s Forbidden City Music Hall, and received a further performance at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
In July 2008, Derrick was named a Resident Artist at American Lyric Theater in New York for its 2008-2009 season. The residency will culminate in a performance at Symphony Space.
